The Seagull Club Present

The Effect, by Lucy Prebble.

The National Theatre’s 2012 critical smash hit is a thrilling, thought-provoking love story.

A large pharmaceutical company are testing a new anti-depressant drug. Connie and Tristan, volunteers paid to take it to test for side effects, fall in love. At first it’s exciting, but then a disturbing question occurs to them: how can they be sure that their feelings aren’t just a side effect?

Funny, fierce and hugely entertaining, Lucy Prebble’s extraordinary play will entertain and provoke in equal measure.

The plays contains some swearing, sexual content and an age restriction of 16+ is advised

It's been a long road since the Seagull Theatre's closure, prompting an impassioned response from the public. A campaign was begun in earnest to save the Seagull Theatre, known as the SOS (Save Our Seagull) campaign. Although the journey's not over yet, it's worth remembering how it all began.
