Luke Wright (supported by John Ward)

April 30

| £5

The Toll – Luke Wright

After the Fringe First winning success of What I Learned From Johnny Bevan, Luke Wright is back to subject the English language to a series of degrading new tricks, all for your amusement.

Featuring a selection of poems from The Toll (Penned in the Margins, 2017) this show tours the flat-roofed pubs and half-bought couches of Brexit Britain. It struggles with doubt, duty and a score of half-cut nights spent shouting impotently at Question Time.

Spend an evening with a raconteur at the top of his game, as he spits out visceral, inventive verse that sweats, bleeds and sings.

“Visceral, poignant, and riotously funny.” Scotsman

“A rip-roaring raconteur, evoking a Larkin-esque sense of commuter belt ennui” Metro

“Cool poems.” Patti Smith

John Ward

John Ward, along with members of his band, will be performing a set of songs that encompass the lives and times of working people, injustice and the struggle for change.  The band will draw on John’s extensive repertoire of self-penned songs, as well as material from the folk tradition, and from the likes of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and others.

‘John has always been an excellent commentator on matters whether they be environmental or political’ – Fatea

‘what John Ward has to say is worth listening to’  R2

Powerful originals Eastern Daily Press

‘I’ve always admired the fearless way John tackles certain  themes often neglected by other folk artists. He is a poet and lyricist, writer and arranger of the top order’  Richard Grainger

It's been a long road since the Seagull Theatre's closure, prompting an impassioned response from the public. A campaign was begun in earnest to save the Seagull Theatre, known as the SOS (Save Our Seagull) campaign. Although the journey's not over yet, it's worth remembering how it all began.
