Imagine where mythological creatures of the sea become reality at UK’s most Easterly Edge.
This idea has been explored by Step Up Production a team of technical design students working in partnership with The Seagull theatre and Realise Futures Learning and Development.
As well as gaining a Gateway certificate in theatre lighting and creative media design, the team have worked in collaboration with the band Wendsum and DJ Smoothgrove to produce an evening of live music and digital projected scenery.
Wendsum (the old English word meaning “winding” that Norfolk’s Wensum river derives its name) is a four piece acoustic band playing guitar, percussion, flute, whistles and voices, their music winds through rhythmically driven dance tunes and intense spoken word. In 2018 saw numerous festival appearances in the east including Folk East, Equinox, Harlequin Fayre, and Maui Waui. In May 2019 Wendsum released their debut album “Far Away” on their own label, Elysian Sounds. The seven tracks speak to the complexities and inequalities of living in our modern world.
DJ Smoothgroove is an established Suffolk DJ with a regular slot at Ipswich Community Radio, Smoothgroove explores the richness and boundaries of electronica and ambient dance producing sonic soundscapes. Establishing roots in Berlin, he has brought his unique style to Suffolk and is a DJ at Lowestoft’s First Light Festival 2019.
